Random Notes From the Southern Hemisphere
Random notes, photos and musings from the "Land Down Under". Lame and self-serving I know, but a good way to keep you all updated as I'll never be any good at emailing.

The reading of the Rukhnama.
In Turkmenistan there resides a revolving gold statue and the giant statue of his book, the Rukhnama. It apparently can open up on special occasions and spew forth a lazer show that writes pages of the book into the fog which it also spews forth. Apparently it is quite impressive.

One of the coolest starters I've eaten.
From top: Betel leaves, lime, toasted almonds, dried shrimp, ginger pieces,
peanuts, shallot, chilli and peanut sauce!

Friday Night Videos! -The Specials
Neville Staple's reformed Specials live at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne. The sound and video quality are very rough but as you can see the guy still gives a quality performance and he's one of the most gracious musicians I've ever witnessed.
See the 15 April post for more adventures from this night.

Friday Night Videos!!! the White Stripes
As a kid I loved Friday Night Videos!
Just for Kicks I thought I might recreate a bit of my mid-youth (excluding the daily beatings and humiliations) and post my own Video taken at some recent concert.
This is footage from Big Day Out 2006, a portion of Jack and Meg singing Cold, Cold Night. The images are from the side-stage video screens as I was way the hell back (I'm too old for this 10,000 crowd fesival shit) still, their performance was quite sensual.
The live audio was horrible so the audio on the video is from the Elephant album. The shitty edits toward the end are mine as the live version was a bit slower and I had to extend it with a couple of audio edits.
Oddly enough, the different audio and video synch quite uniquely.

I'm not sure how the US press covered this little photo-op at Graceland...it came across on most news channels as a pretty silly event.
Fortunately, one of the more independently thinking stations aired a snippet of video footage of Koizumi directly facing Bush as he sang, "Wise man say...Only fools rush in".
It was CLASSIC!
I've been looking for a direct link to the footage and will hopefully post it soon.
