Pic from the Past-Again????

And here you see the same four about to commence their final exam.
What you cannot know is  that we had just finished cramming for this exam

at the local diner, polishing off a jug of beer each.
We bought the hats and flags at the local
Norwegian museum.
Needless to say we didn't score very well.
PS-Moving out of the picture was the only civil
thing those jocks ever did for us.

Plagiarism Friday:
Well not really as I already have a copy of this photo in the US,
but I did steal it from Buddha's site last week.

(Mr Blogger, Michelle, Holly Way-Out, The Buddha)
The occasion of this photo was some beautiful Iowa spring day, early May,1992.
We four slackers had opted out of one of our two foreign language credits
by taking a totally lame-ass course called something like:
Norwegian Folk Art-A Chronological History.
Yes folks, one whole exhilerating semester of:
1. The Gripping Beast
2. Hand Wood Carving
3. Rosemaling

Needless to say, pillows were not included (but required)
Bored Norwegian Shitless 101!!!

On Thursday, Victorian teacher's went on strike for fair pay.
We are paid thousands less per year than our
New South Wales counterpats and for the same work .

This Made Me So ANGRY...

When I saw this my jaw dropped!
Is it any wonder that teenagers of this generation are increasingly losing respect for authority?
Here is a man who is absolutely out of control
and has NO right to be allowed access to the power that "his badge" entitles him to.

I was so livid when I saw this that I contacted the Baltimore police department
to lodge a formal complaint. It was 3am there when I called
(oops...sometimes I forget which hemisphere I live in) but I was given
the appropriate number to ring (and apparently they have been fielding A LOT of calls):
Internal Affairs: 410-396-2300 (after 9am-5pm EST-US)
Or 0011-1-410-396-2300 In Australia (between 2am-10am Melb-AU)
or
Baltimore Mayor's Office: (410) 396-3835
mailto:mayor@baltimorecity.gov

If you are as incensed as I was please call and be heard!

(All) Complaints lodged by members of the public regarding abusive language, harassment, or excessive force by police officers of the Department shall be processed, investigated under Section 16-46 of the Public Local Laws of Baltimore City, and evaluated;

Well, not so happy. It's been a long, cry-filled week and
today is no exception. But just look at that lovely
little outfit. Thanks to the Weil family!!!

Here's picture of Isobel checking out the quilt her
Aunt Erin must have spent an incredible amount of time sewing.
There are about 1600 1x1 inch pieces of cloth cut from op-shop shirts,
carefully laid out and then sewn back together.
It's such an Amazing gift and Isobel loves it.In this shot she was laying on a bed after a bath, waiting to be dressed.
She looked up, stared at the quilt for the longest time
and then began to laugh and "talk" to the invaders.

*Mum says she laughs at our "house ghosts" as well...

The Grape Speaks.
The best bit begins around the 1 minute mark...

If you listen carefully, you can hear our friends tell a funny
story about a buddhist monk who came to bless
their house and twins Sam and Max.

Yesterday I received a comment from a friend of my father's.
Who it was is a mystery but it inspired me to post these pix.
This picture was taken almast exactly 38 years ago.
Dad must have been home from active duty during this time as
Vietnam kept him away for most of my first 3 years.
I'm pretty much the same age here as Isobel is now.

This is a photo of dad as a baby with my grandfather.
Dad looks around the same age as well.
My grandfather was drafted during WWII
but the Pacific campaign ended before he saw any action.
I believe the hat dad is wearing came from Japan.

It's amazing how much Isobel looks like we did as children.
Poor grape!
This child is of no relation...
But you have to admit that he's pretty damned cute!

I saw this spider creating this amazing web
as I hung clothes on the line last night.
While I was trying to get a good shot
it caught a little moth and
wrapped it up in the silk,
destroying all of its beautiful work.

I also happened upon this blog last night:
*** http://whatikilledtoday.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html ***
It's sad but touching at the same time,
but I couldn't stop reading the entries.
(I'm sure, as pet owners, we've all been there a time or two.)

Scroll to the Aug 1st entry and click the pic link.
Pretty sad stuff...

But somehow Grandpa found a way to make it fun

A Trip to the Museum (Again)

We took Isobel back to the Museum again today
to see the Modern Britain show
which was excellent.
But what Isobel liked the most (again) was the
Leonard French ceiling in the Great Hall.
It really cracked her up.
